Position Overview
The Painter – Journeyman is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing surfaces on industrial and commercial structures, piping, equipment, and components. This position requires skill in applying various coatings and finishes, ensuring quality workmanship, and maintaining compliance with company and industry standards for safety, performance, and appearance.
Key Responsibilities- Surface Preparation:
Clean, sandblast, scrape, and prime surfaces to ensure proper coating adhesion. - Coating Application:
Apply paints, primers, epoxies, and specialty coatings using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment. - Quality Control:
Inspect surfaces for defects and ensure finished work meets company and client specifications. - Material Handling:
Mix paints and coatings to achieve correct color and viscosity per manufacturer requirements. - Safety Compliance:
Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations, including proper use of respirators and PPE. - Equipment Maintenance:
Clean and maintain brushes, spray guns, hoses, and other painting tools. - Collaboration:
Coordinate with Foremen, other trades, and safety personnel to ensure efficient job execution.
- Minimum of four (4) years of verifiable industrial or commercial painting experience.
- Strong understanding of surface preparation, coating types, and application methods.
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms.
- Familiarity with paint mixing, tinting, and equipment operation.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- NACE or SSPC training or certification.
- OSHA 30-Hour Safety Certification.
- Experience applying industrial coatings to tanks, piping, and structural steel.
- Work performed at industrial, commercial, or construction job sites and may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and various weather conditions; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and wear required PPE, including respirators, coveralls, and eye protection.
Reports to the Painter – Foreman or Project Superintendent. May assist in mentoring apprentices or helpers.
