Job Title: At Risk High School Associate Principal
Reports To: Principal
Position Type: Full‑Time
Primary
Purpose:
Assist campus staff—counselors, At‑Risk teachers, Student Support Specialists, and administrators—in identifying, preventing, intervening, and managing at‑risk students identified by state‑defined criteria. Increase academic achievement and reduce dropout rates for at‑risk students while upholding integrity, supporting organizational goals, inspiring staff, driving results, and championing student and employee needs.
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas Assistant Principal or other administrative certification
- Three years of experience as a classroom teacher
- Three years as a campus administrator
- Ability to perform teacher evaluations
- Knowledge of federal and state programs
- Ability to coordinate campus support operations
- Ability to coordinate and lead professional learning communities
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Experience leading innovative instruction, assessment, and curriculum
- Knowledge of blended and flipped learning
- Knowledge of nontraditional high school scheduling
- Knowledge of Advanced Placement and/or Dual Credit
- Knowledge of career pathways
- Knowledge of response to intervention processes
- Knowledge of best practices for English Language Learners
- Knowledge of special education law, policies, and procedures
- Ability to multi‑task
- Use campus data to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and instructional strategies, providing recommendations for improvement for at‑risk students
- Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs that promote authentic student engagement and align with the SISD graduate profile
- Promote the use of technology in teaching and learning
- Assist the principal in developing ongoing professional learning plans
- Work with program directors to ensure curriculum alignment, effective implementation, and appropriate resources
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff
- Maintain two‑way communication with district personnel, staff, students, parents, and the community
- Resolve conflicts quickly and demonstrate resilience during high‑stress situations
- Handle diverse cultural backgrounds sensitively and fairly
- Communicate expectations for high performance and recognize excellence and achievement
- Participate in building a common vision for school improvement and plan activities to achieve the mission
- Help develop, maintain, and use information systems to track local, state, and national performance objectives and academic indicators
- Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., Breaking Ranks, National Career Academy Coalition standards, P21) to promote improvement
- Assist the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff
- Define expectations for staff performance related to instructional strategies, classroom management, public communication, and professional learning communities
- Observe, record, and evaluate employee performance, serving as a second appraiser when needed
- Make recommendations regarding termination, suspension, or non‑renewal of assigned employees
- Plan professional development activities with the advisory committee
- Support staff in professional growth, improvement goals, and assessment development
- Comply with district policies and state/federal laws and regulations affecting schools
- Develop campus budget recommendations based on documented program needs and maintain fiscal control, accurately reporting fiscal information
- Supervise operations in the principal’s absence
- Plan daily school activities, including class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular plans
- Assist with safety inspections and drills
