JOB TITLE:
At Risk High School Associate Principal
REPORTS TO: Principal
WAGE/HOUR STATUS:
Exempt
PAY GRADE: AI 6
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The At Risk High School Associate Principal will be responsible for assisting campus school counselors, At Risk teachers, Student Support Specialists and administrators with identification, prevention, intervention and management of at-risk students as identified by the state-defined criteria. The At Risk High School Associate Principal will serve to increase the academic achievement and reduce the drop-out rate of at risk students.
The At Risk High School Associate Principal must act with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others, utilize feedback, drive for results and commit to championing the needs of the students, employees and overall District.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Master's degree from an accredited College of University
- Valid Texas Assistant Principal or other Administrative certification
- Three years' experience as a classroom teacher
- Three years' as a campus administrator
- Ability to perform teacher evaluations
- Knowledge of Federal and State programs
- Ability to coordinate campus support operations
- Ability to coordinate and lead Professional Learning Communities
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Experience leading innovative instruction, assessment and curriculum
- Knowledge and experience with Blended and Flipped Learning
- Knowledge and experience with nontraditional high school scheduling
- Knowledge and experience with Advanced Placement and/or Dual Credit
- Knowledge of Career Pathways
- Knowledge of Response to Intervention process
- Knowledge of best practices and compliance to language acquisition for English Language Learners
- Knowledge of Special Education law, policies and procedures
- Ability to multi-task
Instructional Management
- Use campus data to evaluate effectiveness of educational programs and instructional strategies providing recommendations for improvement for 'at risk' students.
- Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs that result in authentic student engagement and support the Profile of a SISD graduate.
- Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
- Assist principal in developing plans for on-going professional learning.
- Work with program directors to ensure curriculum alignment, effective curriculum implementation, instructional strategies and appropriate materials and resources.
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in professional learning communities.
- Provide for two-way communication with district personnel, staff, students, parents and community.
- Ensures the effective and quick resolutions to conflicts and demonstrates resilience during and after high stress situations.
- Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students. Recognize excellence and achievement.
- Participate in building a common vision for school improvement and assists in the planning of activities that will ensure attainment of the school mission.
- Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records to track progress on local, state, and national performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
- Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., Breaking Ranks recommendations, National Career Academy Coalition standards, P21) to promote school improvement.
- Work with principal and campus advisory committee in setting annual campus performance goals, developing plans for improvement, and monitoring campus progress.
- Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
- Assist the principal in defining expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, communication with the public, and participation in professional learning communities.
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser for designated teachers as needed.
- Make recommendations to principal; on termination, suspension, or non-renewal of employees assigned to campus.
- Work with campus advisory committee to plan professional development activities.
- Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth. Work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
- Work with staff on developing assessments, analyzing student performance and developing plans for improvements.
