Job DescriptionDEPARTMENT: Nursing
REPORTS TO: Principal/Nursing Supervisor
SALARY: $52,904.00 - $76,433.00 (School Nurse (RN) Salary Schedule)
WORK SCHEDULE: To be arranged with the Principal and the Nursing Supervisor of Nursing (In accordance with contract requirements).
DUTIES- Assess and evaluate students’ health, pertinent family history, and home factors; counsel students, parents and school personnel about health problems and issues.
- Maintain health records, conduct research and evaluate school health programs.
- Notify appropriate individuals of immediate and potential health‑related problems.
- Coordinate health resources of school, home, community and allied health agencies/hospitals by arranging, maintaining records, notifying and counseling students, parents/guardians and health personnel.
- Prepare regular written reports for supervisor, MDPH and other relevant agencies.
- Develop individual health care plans as needed and coordinate with other providers and school personnel.
- Document pertinent information in student records according to the Standards of Practice.
- Provide emergency care for all students on school premises in the event of injury or sudden illness.
- Administer medication to students with parent/guardian and physician consent.
- Perform site‑mandated screenings in vision, hearing, scoliosis, TB testing and other health‑related activities as required by state and city departments of public health.
- Provide information about health and disease prevention in cooperation with health education programs as requested by administrators.
- Participate in school health‑related activities as deemed appropriate by the principal/supervisor.
- Act as a resource in health education to students and families.
- Initiate, promote, maintain and implement programs for the recognition, prevention and control of disease, including administering immunizations.
- Participate in the 766 Core evaluation team by coordinating medical evaluation, providing medical data and appropriate interpretations, providing sociological assessment and early childhood screenings as requested.
- Collaborate with staff in school and health centers.
- Provide sport physical clearance coverage as needed.
- Current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
- Three years of responsible professional experience in school nursing or a related field preferred.
- Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- DOE certification or eligibility for DOE certification in educator category, Nurse, All Levels (Minimum of a BSN).
