Job Description
The Driver Trainee position is an entry‑level role designed for individuals with 0‑12 months of experience and a Class A license. The role offers a guaranteed pay of $300 per day during the 11‑16 week training program. Drivers work Monday through Friday with dispatch windows between 3:00 am and 5:00 am and return home daily.
Position PurposeThis is an entry level driver training role. The trainee will learn to drive a tractor‑trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over‑the‑toad (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries of food and food‑related products. All routes must be completed safely in compliance with company policies and DOT regulations. The driver trainee will communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers, execute services and duties consistently with customer‑service practices, function as a team member within the department, and perform any duties assigned to best serve the company.
PositionResponsibilities
- Attend and successfully complete the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program; maintain all required training documentation.
- Ride‑with and assist the driver trainer in executing deliveries; follow all instructions and directions provided by the trainer.
- Perform all required safety checks (pre/post trip) and inspections of tractor/truck and trailer per DOT regulations; ensure compliance with company safety standards and report any issues or necessary repairs.
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe‑driving guidelines and policies; immediately report any safety hazards.
- Inspect the trailer for proper loading and securing of freight; perform item counts and verify customer invoices; complete required paperwork accurately and legibly.
- Drive to and deliver customer orders according to the predetermined route delivery schedule.
- Unload products from the trailer, transport items to designated customer storage areas, and perform damage‑control checks; scan and contact the supervisor if orders need removal; verify deliveries with customers and obtain signatures; collect cash or checks when required; load customer returns onto the trailer and secure the doors.
- Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight are locked and/or secured at all times.
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns, bring them to the driver check‑in, and complete necessary paperwork; unload all equipment, materials, and remove trash from trailers as required.
- Complete a daily record of hours of service and enter them in the log per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Perform general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clear and clean; at the end of the shift secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Internal PFG Candidates: 1 year of service in good standing in the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program; must attain a CDL Permit and DOT Health Card.
- External Driver School Direct Hire: 0‑12 months experience with a CDL license.
- External Entry Level Hire: 0‑12 months experience with a CDL license.
- Valid CDL
A. - Must be 21 years of age.
- Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
- Pass post‑offer drug test.
- Pass road test.
- Attain or hold a current DOT Health Card.
- Able to hand‑lift and utilize a two‑wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight ranging from approximately 60 to 90 pounds throughout the shift.

Compensation$300 per day guaranteed during training.
