The Position

This role supports field Service operations within Sungrow USA related to commissioning, warranty, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the expanding installed sites in the region. Reporting to the regional field service supervisor, the position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning support of PV inverters and ancillary equipment/systems, usually at the customer’s site or a staging yard/warehouse. The role must comply with the Safety Mandate, "ZERO HARM," and implement safety management policies and procedures regarding safety information, hazard analysis, safe operations/maintenance training, subcontractor compliance, plant integrity, work permits, and emergency planning.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of technical assignments involving the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of string and central solar inverter and/or BESS systems, PCS, batteries, and ancillary equipment.
  • Perform general troubleshooting and diagnosis under Sungrow’s maintenance and repair guidelines.
  • Support and perform pre‑commissioning (with and without grid emulator) and commissioning of solar inverters and BESS systems within schedule and work plans.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance and other Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA) activities per the contract.
  • Investigate solar plant issues such as DC array grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients. For BESS positions, investigations may also involve SOC checks and module/component‑level troubleshooting, replacement of electrical/electronic parts, SW version updates, etc.
  • Provide feedback to the engineering and project team on possible mechanical and electrical design improvements.
  • Lead upgrade/rework projects (software and hardware) in the field and interact with customers to explain the project's technical scope and manage work schedule and commitments.
  • Work with customer SCADA engineers to set up systems communication and parameters involving Sungrow’s controllers and F&G systems as needed.
  • Accurately describe troubleshooting sequences and procedures observed.
  • Identify and document basic mechanical and electrical issues and problems.
  • Perform basic corrective maintenance.
  • Create/modify field service procedures for safety troubleshooting and maintenance if required.
  • When using contractors on sites, act as the lead to ensure contractors submit daily activity reports and JSA reports and work follows Sungrow standards and expectations.
  • Prepare and submit own daily activity reports and daily JSA reports.
  • Work independently in the field and with design engineers to resolve high‑level technical issues, support investigation of the root cause for technology applications for complex projects.
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to maintain the solar plant operations.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
  • Complete documentation in a timely and organized fashion.
  • Follow level‑appropriate standard operating procedures.
  • Own creation and submission of all field paperwork and documentation for full compliance with site documentation and project requirements.
  • Serve as a safety second if needed.
Education or Desired License and Certificates
  • Associate’s Degree in an Engineering or Computer Science Discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Renewable industry experience is desired.
  • Power electronics experience is desired.
  • OSHA 10 certificate within 12 months of date of hire.
  • NFPA 70e certificate within 12 months of date of hire.
