Job Description – Machine Operator I

This entry‑level role requires basic knowledge of mechanical and structural processes and equipment. Machine Operators I must be able to operate or learn to operate numerous machines and equipment within one year. The ability to understand verbal and written instructions is essential. Ability to work in a team environment and independently while adhering to all safety standards and protocols is key, including consistent Lock‑out/Tag‑out procedures.

Job Functions
  • Operate mobile crane equipment and direct rigging and hoisting of equipment.
  • Set up and operate machines to produce parts to standard shop blueprints.
  • Perform grinding tasks where abrasive grade and type are determined by others.
  • Apply paint where finish or compliance to specifications are critical.
  • Operate basic machines such as presses, shears, saws, rolls, etc.
  • Perform various warehouse activities including receiving, special order and inventory.
  • Collaborate with warehouse, production, and logistics teams to ensure efficient, safe loading and unloading operations.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Guide and train coworkers to promote continuous and efficient performance.
  • Perform other duties requiring similar skills and abilities as assigned.
  • Maintain regular, in‑person attendance due to required teamwork and personal interaction.
  • Remain alert and work safely at all times.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Competencies)
  • Read a tape measure.
  • Read, interpret and work from blueprints, sketches or specifications.
  • Promote a safe work environment.
  • Take initiative and be a self‑starter to meet production demands and schedules.
  • Work independently and in a team environment.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability.
  • Knowledge of product, mechanics, shop mathematics, shop processes and procedures.
  • Operate overhead crane.
  • Blueprint reading.

  • Vertical and horizontal marvel band saw
  • Cold blade saw
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with trucks under three tons (i.e., tractors and fork‑trucks), mobile crane equipment and overhead cranes.
Schedule
  • 10‑hour shift
  • Day shift or 2nd shift
  • Monday to Friday
Work Environment

Exposure to dust, fumes, noise and high‑degree varying seasonal temperatures. Machinery with energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, or other energy.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, handle, grasp or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Additional effort requirements consist of, but are not limited to, lifting, pushing and pulling material, stairs, and ladders. When moving heavy material greater than 50 pounds, the operator will request assistance or use provided lifting equipment.
