Why This Role MattersEvery order that passes through the Sterling branch shipping department depends on this role being done right. This Warehouse Associate – Night Shift is the last set of eyes before an order goes out the door. Accurate shipping keeps customers on schedule and upholds Shepherd’s reputation.
Work Shift and HoursMonday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm.
Key Outcomes- Outbound Order Accuracy & Fulfillment
- Pull, verify, and stage outbound orders accurately.
- Confirm shipping documentation is complete and accurate before leaving the dock.
- Conduct a final physical check to catch discrepancies.
- Shipping Documentation & Compliance
- Generate and verify bills of lading, packing slips, and delivery confirmations.
- Document all shipping exceptions—shortages, substitutions, split shipments—clearly and promptly.
- Maintain accurate records in the warehouse management system.
- Flag documentation errors or system discrepancies to the Warehouse Manager.
- Inventory Integrity at the Dock
- Pull orders accurately from bin locations and confirm picks against documents.
- Return mis‑picks, over‑pulls, and damaged product to proper locations immediately.
- Report recurring pick errors or bin location discrepancies to the Warehouse Manager.
- Equipment, Safety & Facility
- Operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, and shipping equipment safely.
- Conduct pre‑shift equipment checks and report maintenance needs.
- Keep the shipping area organized, labeled, and clear of hazards.
- Maintain safety compliance and alert leadership to unsafe conditions.
- Continuous Improvement
- Surface workflow friction, recurring errors, or staging inefficiencies to the Warehouse Manager.
- Cross‑train on receiving and warehouse floor functions.
- Support onboarding of new shipping team members.
After 90 days, the associate and their Manager should:
- Have outbound orders leave the dock accurately every shift.
- Stage will‑call orders before customer arrival.
- Document and communicate shipping exceptions the same day.
- Keep the shipping area organized, hazards addressed, and equipment maintained.
- Present at least one meaningful improvement during the first 90 days.
- Owns accuracy without reminders.
- Pays attention in a fast pace environment.
- Treats the dock as a quality checkpoint.
- Communicates clearly with team, dispatch, and sales.
- Stays steady during shifting priorities and volume spikes.
- Values right, not just done.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior shipping, warehouse, or fulfillment experience preferred; motivated entry‑level candidates considered.
- Forklift or pallet jack certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems and standard computer tools (Excel, email) preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 60lbs. regularly and stand for extended periods.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment screening requirements.
