CBCL has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Site Representative to join our Newfoundland Team for site observation work in Port Aux Basques, NL for projects spanning the next 3 years. This is a field‑based role supporting civil, marine, and buildings projects in Port Aux Basques NL.
This position is well suited to individuals with practical construction experience or a Civil Engineering Technology diploma who are comfortable working independently on active construction sites and ensuring work is completed in accordance with project drawings and specifications.
This is not a design or engineering role. We are seeking candidates with strong field experience who enjoy being on site and working closely with contractors to deliver quality infrastructure projects.
Position Duration and Assignment This is a year‑round position, with time off scheduled around construction activities. The successful candidate will be assigned to one or more construction projects, and it is anticipated that there will be multiple projects ongoing from and on ongoing basis. Lodging and per diem expenses are provided.
What You’ll Do As a year‑round Site Representative, you will act as CBCL’s on‑site presence during construction and will be responsible for monitoring and documenting construction activities to ensure projects are built as designed.
Representing the Owner and Consultant on site during construction activities
Reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
Monitoring construction to confirm compliance with project requirements
Measuring, tracking, and recording construction quantities and daily progress
Preparing detailed daily inspection reports and field documentation
Verifying contractor progress claims against observed work and measured quantities
Observing and reporting on general site safety practices
Liaising regularly with contractors, project managers, municipal staff, and other stakeholders
What We’re Looking For We are seeking candidates with strong practical knowledge of municipal construction, particularly in water, sewer, roadworks, and marine construction who are comfortable making sound judgments in the field.
Ideal qualifications include A Civil Engineering Technology diploma or significant hands‑on experience in municipal construction in roles such as site foreperson, lead hand, pipefitter, or similar field positions
Familiarity with the Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Water, Sewer and Roads Master Construction Specifications
Ability to work independently on site with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document construction activities
Clear and professional communication skills.
Additional Requirements Willingness to work typical construction hours and be present on site for extended periods throughout the construction season
Willingness to travel within Newfoundland and Labrador as required
Valid Class 5 Newfoundland and Labrador driver’s license
Previous experience working with a consulting engineering firm or performing construction inspection is considered an asset, but not required.
