Content Management Specialist

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full‑time work experience. Familiarity with cataloging/metadata practices and standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Professional experience in an academic library. Familiarity with processing and cataloging music materials and/or other library materials in a variety of formats. Experience with public‑facing service, including service desk coverage or reference and research support. Familiarity with library technologies, including library management systems and discovery platforms. Exposure to special formats in academic library collections such as archival materials.

Experience with common productivity tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, electronic communication, and applications such as Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Google Workspace. Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) tools and their potential applications in libraries, archives, or information access.

Brief Description of Duties

Reporting to the Director of Content Management, the Content Management Specialist will work within the Content Services division of Stony Brook University Libraries to support access to library resources and provide reference and research support services to library patrons. Primary responsibilities include cataloging and describing music materials, staffing the service desk at the Music Library, and contributing to content management projects.

  • Computer skills, including proficiency with Google apps, Microsoft Office products, including spreadsheet maintenance

Duties
  • Support access to Music Library materials through cataloging, resource description and digital file retrieval.
  • Provide service desk coverage at the Music Library, including reference and research support.
  • Support access to library resources through cataloging and resource description in our library management system (Alma/Primo); priority projects will be assigned based on library needs.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives such as data quality, remediation, and assessment projects.
  • Maintain technical competency and skills through professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in department and University‑wide committees, events, and professional organizations.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
