Position Overview

Swampscott Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and qualified Summer Program Nurse to support our Extended School Year (ESY) programming for the 2026 summer session. In this role, your primary function will be to oversee the medical management, health, and physical well-being of all enrolled students.

Because the safety, complex medical plans, and emergency interventions of our students rely entirely on continuous clinical oversight, strict punctuality and reliable attendance are mandatory for the duration of this five-week program. Guided by the district's C.O.R.E. values-Community, Opportunity, Respect, and Equity-you will ensure a medically safe and inclusive environment where students can thrive during their summer programming.

Essential Functions

Medical Management & Specialized Care

* Records Review:
Thoroughly review all medical information, allergy profiles, and prescription requirements for students enrolled in the ESY program before and during the session.

* Health Care Plans:
Maintain deep familiarity with and execute existing Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs) for all participating students.

* Medication Administration:
Safely administer daily scheduled medications and stand ready to deliver emergency rescue medications when medically necessary.

* Data Maintenance:
Maintain organized, secure, and accurate documentation regarding student medical conditions, treatment logs, and clinical interactions.

Clinical Care & Triage

* Student Well-Being:
Serve as the primary responder for students requiring medical attention, treating acute illnesses or injuries during program hours.

* Emergency Response:
Lead medical triage and coordination, including proactively contacting parents/guardians and collaborating with medical providers or emergency services as required.

* Cross-Building Support:
Remain primarily stationed at Swampscott Elementary School (SES) while maintaining the flexibility to travel to Swampscott Middle School (SMS) to provide medical coverage as needed.

* Early Childhood Onboarding:
Initiate and organize medical records folders for incoming Kindergarten students to streamline the transition for the upcoming academic year.

Professional Reliability

* Consistent Attendance:
Adhere strictly to the summer schedule (Monday-Thursday, 8:00 AM-1:00 PM) to fulfill state-mandated clinical medical coverage requirements for special education programming.

Job Requirements

* Licensure:
Valid Massachusetts RN

* Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution required.

* Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year of successful school nursing or pediatric clinical experience.

* Certifications:

Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.

* Compliance:
Successful completion of a Massachusetts CORI and fingerprint-based national criminal background check.

* Stamina & Mobility:
This position requires the ability to walk, sit, stand, and move quickly between medical emergencies; reaching with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds (such as emergency medical bags or assisting a child).

* Communication & Senses:
Clear talking and acute hearing in person and by telephone to gather medical histories and speak with parents or emergency dispatchers.

* Vision:
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision (for reading test strips or assessing rashes), and the ability to adjust focus.

* Environment:
Possible exposure to biological fluids, ultraviolet lights (monitors/copiers), and various clinical hazards common to a school health office.
