Overview
Commercial Account Manager
Reporting to the Head, Commercial Banking, the Commercial Account Manager plays a vital role in supporting the financial success of Sydney Credit Union’s business members. This position is responsible for managing and growing the commercial loan portfolio through expert financial analysis, relationship building, and strategic lending practices. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with internal and external partners to deliver tailored financial solutions while upholding the Credit Union’s commitment to exceptional member service.
Key Responsibilities- Interview applicants and perform financial analysis for new, amended, or renewal commercial loan applications
- Interpret complex legal documents such as share purchases, asset purchases, vendor take backs and subordinate agreements
- Establish and negotiate loan terms, conditions, and collateral requirements
- Recommend approvals for commercial loans and mortgages within policy limits
- Maintain internal controls, security controls and loan quality controls for the commercial loan portfolio
- Collaborate with Atlantic Central and Credit Union Deposit Insurance for approvals and exceptions
- Monitor the commercial credit portfolio and manage delinquency
- Administer programs such as Microloan, Nova Scotia Small Business Loan, CMHC, and Canada Small Business Loan
- Conduct annual reviews of commercial clients for credit worthiness and growth opportunities
- Maitain a high level of business retention by building trust and ensuring member satisfaction
- Participate in community events and represent the Credit Union at business conferences
- Support personal lending and coach front-line staff
- Refer business to partners such as CU Financial, CUMIS, and Concentra
- Provide input into commercial business development strategy and budget planning
- Other duties as required
- A degree in business, finance, or accounting
- A minimum of 3–5 years lending experience in a financial institution or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preference given to candidates with commercial lending experience
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills
- Supports change initiatives
- Technical competencies in adjudication, underwriting, risk management, and financial principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software
- A commitment to cooperative values and community engagement
- Results Oriented
This is a full-time non-union position. Remuneration will be paid in accordance with Sydney Credit Union’s Management Salary Structure Level 5:
Salary: $77,026.97 – $90,619.96
- Generous benefit package including a Flexible Health and Dental Plan (paid 80% by employer)
- Defined Contribution Pension Plan with increasing employer contributions up to 10% and flexibility for voluntary employee contributions.
