Staff Firmware Engineer (FPGA Design)
Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems in Syracuse, NY is seeking a full‑time Staff Firmware Engineer with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Modeling and Simulation experience and knowledge. In this role, you will support design and architecture development, implement FPGA designs and integrate and troubleshoot designs. You will also be involved in the innovation and deployment of algorithms, requirements, and modeling for Electronic Warfare (EW) systems related to military and space applications.
Responsibilities- Support design and architecture development for FPGA hardware.
- Implement FPGA designs on Intel, Xilinx, or Microchip devices.
- Integrate and troubleshoot integrated FPGA solutions.
- Develop, test, and deploy algorithms and models for EW systems.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver robust firmware solutions.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 7 years of professional experience; or 5 years of professional experience with a related Master's degree.
- FPGA architecture and design experience with Intel, Xilinx, or Microchip devices.
- Experience determining technical objectives using technologies such as FPGAs, microprocessors, DSPs, and interface controllers.
- Working knowledge of digital signal processing and modeling with MATLAB or Python.
- Extensive System Verilog, Verilog, or VHDL firmware programming capability applied on FPGA devices.
- Leadership and/or project planning with Earned Value Management (EVM).
- Knowledge of Agile framework and tools (Jira, Confluence).
- Ability to weigh design options within a trade space.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
- Technical expertise to implement designs with minimal direction.
- C/C++ programming.
- Estimation theory knowledge.
- Precision emitter location understanding.
- Numerical methods proficiency.
- MATLAB Coder expertise.
- Advanced VHDL coding.
- Advanced experience with AMD/Xilinx platforms and architectures.
- Experience utilizing Intel Quartus, Xilinx Vivado, or Microchip Libero platforms to build and test executable hardware implementations.
- Use of Mentor Questa HDL simulator, including UVM verification techniques.

Ability to Work RemotelyPart‑time Remote Telework:
The employee selected for this position will work part of the schedule remotely and part at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. Specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five‑day work week, while condensed schedules provide additional time away from the office and are in addition to Paid Time Off benefits.
National Pay StatementPay Rate:
Annual base salary range for California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $123,500 – $217,695. For other states, the salary range will reflect the employee’s final work location. Salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, work experience, education/training, key skills, and market/business considerations when extending an offer.

Pay Rate:
Annual base salary range for most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $142,000 – $246,100. For other states, the salary range will reflect the employee’s final work location. Salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, work experience, education/training, key skills, and market/business considerations when extending an offer.
