An established charter school in Syracuse is seeking a licensed Mild/Moderate Special Education Teacher who enjoys working with students with disabilities in a special class placement. This is a full-time position for the school year.
Syracuse Arts Academy provides a challenging, accelerated curriculum where academic excellence, character development, and individual growth are nurtured in a safe, orderly and pleasant environment.
Candidate will be responsible for the education of students with significant academic, social and behavioral deficits to create a classroom environment favorable for learning and personal growth. This includes implementing best practices in the instruction of academics, social skills and behavioral skills. The teacher is responsible to deliver instruction in accordance with each student's IEP. Candidate will write and review IEPs, conduct IEP meetings, collect data on student goals, maintain the special education files of students, train and schedule paraprofessionals to carry out duties, and work with school team members in a collaborative and professional manner to support positive outcomes for students.
EssentialDuties Include (but Are Not Limited To)
- Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences for students with disabilities
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Develop and implement effective Individual Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the team
- Identify and implement differentiated instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs in a variety of school settings
- Collaborate with general education teachers to promote and support inclusion for students with disabilities
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing rules and maintaining consistent classroom routines and procedures
- Implement behavioral intervention plans, as well as a variety of positive behavioral supports, to promote growth in social and behavioral skills
- Maintain accurate records of student's progress and update all necessary records in a timely manner as required by law, district policies and school regulations
- Use relevant technology to support instruction and for data collection in accordance with IEPs
- Participate in all LEA department and school meetings, parent meetings and any other required professional development opportunities
- Provide clear, collaborative and professional communication with administration, teachers, related service providers and parents regarding student progress and student needs
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Valid Special Education Educator license for the State of Utah
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of the school, district, and state
- Relevant teaching experience
- Knowledge of relevant technology
