The Distribution Construction Inspector is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and post‑inspecting overhead and underground distribution construction performed by outside contractors. This role ensures all work complies with company general rules, specifications, safety standards, and approved design drawings. This position serves as a subject matter expert for contractor construction activities and acts as a liaison between contractors, internal teams, and customers to ensure safe, accurate, and cost‑effective project execution.
This is a field‑based role supporting distribution construction across the service territory.
- Inspect and post‑check overhead and underground distribution installations
- Ensure final as‑builts reflect approved general rules and specifications
- Verify Distribution Technician designs for material accuracy, drawings, and installation methods
- Provide in‑field direction to contractors when construction corrections are required
- Coordinate grounding and post inspections of distribution and transmission systems
- Record daily field inspection data in the Contractor Management System
- Monitor contractor performance, workmanship, safety compliance, and efficiencies
- Report concerns regarding construction quality or safety violations
- Ensure projects are completed in a cost‑effective and timely manner
- Verify contractor units and hourly rates reflect actual construction performed
- Assist with invoice resolution and billing corrections
- Input contractor invoices into Work Pro
- Perform reconciliation of labor, materials, and related construction costs
- Assist in resolving customer access or site restoration issues
- Act as liaison between contractors, company departments, and customers
- Support coordination with internal departments including Design, Planning, Scheduling, and Customer Service
- Serve as the subject matter expert on contractor construction matters
- Make field‑level construction decisions related to scope changes
- Ensure scope changes are approved and properly reflected in Work Pro and GIS
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Florida driver’s license with safe driving record required
- Minimum of eight (8) years as a utility Energy Delivery journeyman Lineman or Trouble man
- Strong experience in overhead and underground distribution construction
- Experience working around energized distribution equipment
- Four (4) years of line crew leader experience
- Experience reviewing contractor construction work
- Working knowledge of Work Pro, GIS, and contractor management systems
- Strong understanding of overhead and underground distribution construction standards
- Ability to read and interpret electrical distribution designs and drawings
- Knowledge of general rules and construction specifications
- Ability to provide in‑field design direction to contractors
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced field environment
- Commitment to safety and compliance
- Combination of field and office environments
- Daily use of company vehicle for inspections and audits
- Required use of personal protective equipment including FR clothing and rubber gloves when working near energized equipment
- Frequent driving throughout the service territory
- Walking to field construction locations
- Regular lifting up to 20 lbs and occasional lifting up to 40 lbs
