Line & Grade Instrument Man II – Baker Concrete Construction, Inc – Tampa, FL

The Line & Grade Instrument Man II provides expertise and coordination in using surveying equipment to ensure work is laid out with effective and accurate precision. Coordinates layout activities with the Party Chief, Superintendent, and/or Foremen for the installation of layout on a project. Collaborates with project leadership to identify improvement ideas, resolves conflicts with tolerances and constructability issues, and contributes to safety on the project.

• Accurately maintain all physical site dimensions and controls.
• Accurately lay out building location, structures, and dimensions throughout the project.
• Assist in establishing procedures and coordinate with the client to define primary survey points and transfer building control on the site.
• Establish secondary control and communicate procedures to individual work crews; implement procedures to adequately provide layout methods and conduct check/re-check.
• Provide required data to Party Chief for defining points needed in a data collector.
• Calculate and monitor concrete hold quantities on a daily basis.
• Maintain communication with Party Chief, Superintendent, Foremen, and other trades to coordinate project layout.
• Serve as Party Chief on smaller projects.
• Set up and check accuracy of surveying equipment through pegging and double centering, or other methods.
• Validate calculations and other information provided by the Party Chief/Superintendent.
• Review construction documents for accuracy, deviations, and conflicts and write clarification requests accordingly.
• Collaborate with Party Chief, Superintendent, Foremen, and other trades to resolve constructability conflicts.
• Interface with Formwork Engineering department to provide layout for formwork shop drawings.
• Maintain field notes and documentation generated by layout.
• Review and understand construction drawings and identify discrepancies.
• Communicate changes and maintain technical drawings, as-built drawings, clarification logs, etc.
• Apply general construction tolerances and determine the most stringent tolerance for work application.
• Follow safety guidelines, including wearing PPE, staying aware of surroundings, and attending Tool Box Talks.
• Provide input for Safety Task Analysis and comply with proper safety procedures.

• High School Diploma and 4 years of construction experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Line & Grade Instrument Man I.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies.
• Ability to work within a team environment.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; understanding of geometry and trigonometry.
• Knowledge of industry tolerances.
• Working knowledge of coordinate systems.
• Ability to work harmoniously, respectfully, and effectively with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and clients.
• Team player who provides information to the workforce, resolves conflict, and gives feedback.
• Ability to direct work.
