We are a charitable trust with a diverse portfolio including independent living schemes for care leavers and older people, an extra care scheme, a diverse portfolio of Community Places and lead community development and involvement services across our Birmingham and Telford neighbourhoods. This role will support the Director of Communities in leading these services during a key period of strategic review to ensure that they continue to deliver successfully for the communities we serve whilst we develop what our vision for the future delivery looks like.

The role would be perfect for someone who has experience of leading teams delivering these community services to a diverse range of customers and service users, who understands the regulatory requirements and is able to work collaboratively and in partnership to deliver results.

Job Profile

In this role you will be leading the teams responsible for delivering services across our care leavers scheme, our out of school provision, our independent older persons schemes in Birmingham and our Extra Care scheme in Lightmoor to ensure that we are compliant and responding to the needs of our customers.

In addition, the role will lead our community development and involvement service across Birmingham which is responsible for the running of our two community halls, the management of leases and licenses for other community assets that BVT owns and the development of our Neighbourhood Plans.

Creating and strengthening partnerships and collaborative working relationships with a range of community stakeholders including our tenants and customers is core to this role and as a key member of the Communities Department Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for ensuring that BVT are delivering in line with our published policy, procedures and strategies including our Community Building, Championing People and Resident Involvement Strategies;
Ensuring that BVT provides the opportunities for our tenants and wider customers are able to get involved and shape our services.

You will be innovative and use different strategies to develop and build on BVT’s community engagement activities through social media, resident led forums, community and networks events as we begin our review of the Birmingham Scheme of Management, supporting the Head of Estates and Stewardship on this project. You will need to be confident in communicating with residents and groups from different backgrounds and to connect local people to local places and services.

The role requires flexibility as some events and meetings take place on weekends and evenings.

Candidate profile
  • You will have experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams across community and/or support services
  • You will be values driven and focused on delivering great services, be empathetic and adept at communicating with residents and stakeholders.
  • Be creative and passionate about delivering positive impact the community and its residents.
  • Being organised and having good problem-solving skills is key as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience of managing data KPI reporting
  • You will be self-motivated and able to work in partnership with wide ranging stakeholders.
