Job Description

Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sport(s). Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Current CPR and AED certification (maintained while holding the position)
Clear Texas commercial driver’s license (Passenger and School Bus endorsements optional)

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical (if driving duties required)
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties Instruction

Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes.

Assist with management and supervision of athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

Collaborate with other school staff to plan and implement instructional goals for the educational development of student athletes.

Program Management

Assist with the establishment of performance criteria for competition and regularly evaluate students’ athletic abilities.

Model performance criteria and required physical movements for successful student performance.

Take necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Coordinate travel arrangements to out-of-town events (including optional bus driving).

Ensure compliance with all UIL rules.

Assist with the evaluation of the coaching program and suggest improvements based on findings.

Student Management

Accompany and supervise student athletes during competitions both at home and on out-of-town trips.

Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations regarding academic requirements, scholarships, and recruiting practices.

Enforce student discipline during contests, practice, and trips in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.

Encourage sportsmanlike conduct through example and instruction.

Communication

Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

Administration

Assist in selecting equipment and instructional materials.

Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents.

Assist with cleaning, repairing, and storing athletic equipment.

Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assign and oversee the work of student athletic assistants.

Athletic equipment, standard office equipment, AED, school bus.

Prolonged standing; kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping.

Job Requirements
