Job Title: Instructional Coach Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Curriculum & Instruction Pay Grade: 211 days

Dept./School: Central Administration Office

Primary

Purpose:

The instructional coach will serve as an on-site professional staff developer who collaborates

with administration and teachers to use effective research-based teaching strategies that results in

high levels of student engagement and achievement. Coaches will provide on-site coaching using a

variety of instructional approaches and interventions to teachers in response to teacher need and

analysis of student achievement data.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master's degree (preferred)

Mid-management Certification (preferred)

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of adopted core curriculum

Knowledge of research-based practices

Knowledge of formative and summative assessment strategies

Knowledge of the school improvement process

Knowledge of classroom management techniques

Ability to interpret data

Interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) to build relationships with teachers, student, and school personnel

Experience:

Three years successful teaching experience

Such alternative to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide job-embedded professional development for teachers through modeling engaging, standards-based teaching as needed.
  • Provide individual and/or group instructional coaching and mentoring to teachers to improve classroom instruction for all learners.
  • Work with teachers and campus administration to analyze student data, diagnose instructional needs and identify research-based instructional strategies to close achievement gaps.
  • Work with content coordinator and campus administration to design and provide professional development focused on improving alignment and delivery of the written, taught and tested curriculum to increase student success and close performance gaps.
  • Collaborate with content coordinator, campus administration, and teachers to review and develop aligned curriculum components including assessments.
  • Work with content coordinators, campus administration, and teachers in designing engaging lessons and formative assessments aligned to the district curriculum.
  • Serve as a content specialist to assist in the development and implementation of professional development aligned to district goals and curriculum.
  • Encourage and support the implementation of technology and innovative strategies in the classroom.
  • Assist teachers and campuses by building leadership capacity.
  • Participate fully in professional development for coaches, including peer observations, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions.

  • ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL MANAGEMENT
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
  • Comply with state testing guidelines.
  • Compile, maintain, and present all reports, records, and other documents as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
