Job Overview

Under the direction of the Park Superintendent, this position performs complex assistant park/historic site management work. The incumbent is responsible for the effective management, safety and security of Fort Richardson State Historic Site, assists in directing, organizing, and planning overall park administration, programs, and activities.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise park personnel, including duties coordination and performance evaluation.
  • Coordinate fiscal control program, budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Facilitate and oversee special events, volunteer program, public relations, and customer service.
  • Direct interpretive programs, safety programs, resource protection and management.
  • Act as acting Park Superintendent in the superintendent's absence.
  • Collaborate with park superintendents, hosts, volunteers, and alternative work forces to plan and execute projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience:

    Two years in natural/cultural resource management, interpretation or education, general maintenance, public safety, promotions, or public relations/marketing (experience may be concurrent).
  • Licensure:
    Valid Texas driver’s license at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Park/Museum Administration, Recreation and Parks, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Management, Forestry, Biology, Anthropology, Museum Science, Historic Preservation, Archaeology, or History.
  • Experience:

    Supervisor or team‑leader experience; revenue or budget‑management experience.
  • Licensure:
    Non‑Commercial Pesticide/Herbicide Applicators license issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of park administration and natural/cultural resource management.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Planning, assigning, and supervising work of others.
  • Conflict resolution and customer service procedures.
  • Training others and providing guidance to less‑tenured staff.
  • Independent decision making and sound judgment.
  • Facility, equipment, and grounds repair program knowledge.
  • Human resource management and personnel supervision.
  • Financial systems, budgeting, purchasing, and revenue collection.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to develop relationships and professional partnerships.
  • Ability to plan marketing and promotional activities.
  • Ability to coordinate maintenance, repair, or construction of park facilities and equipment.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and enforcing state and federal safety laws.
  • Ability to handle complaints, emergencies, and large groups of people.
  • Physical ability to lift supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Compliance with TPWD safety program.
Working Conditions
  • 40 hours per week; flexible hours beyond 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; days off other than Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Travel 5 % of time, possible overnight stays.
  • Work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather.
  • Live on‑site in state housing with monthly deduction of $160.55.
  • Perform manual labor, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Compliance with TPWD dress, grooming, work rules, and safety procedures.
  • Non‑smoking environment.
