Brookwood’s horticulture enterprise is one of the largest and most respected greenhouse and garden center operations in Texas, featuring nearly 50 greenhouses on 5 acres, retail and wholesale plant sales, specialty growing environments, and production of over 200,000 plants annually - including its well‑known poinsettia program. This operation blends high-quality ornamental plant production with a mission-driven workforce, providing meaningful employment opportunities for adults with disabilities.

We are seeking an experienced, people-focused Operations Manager to lead greenhouse production, garden center operations, and team development while supporting Brookwood’s mission. This role combines hands‑on horticultural leadership with servant‑hearted management in a highly collaborative, values‑driven environment.

Key Responsibilities Greenhouse & Horticulture Operations
  • Lead daily greenhouse and horticulture production operations across a large‑scale facility
  • Oversee propagation, irrigation, environmental controls, inventory, and crop scheduling
  • Manage garden center operations, merchandising, and plant quality standards
  • Coordinate equipment use, facility maintenance, and procurement of growing supplies
  • Drive efficiency, production planning, and operational improvements
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop a diverse Horticulture team including staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive, mission‑driven workplace culture
  • Conduct training, performance management, and team development initiatives
  • Facilitate production planning and departmental communication
Financial & Business Management
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control efforts
  • Monitor production costs, inventory, and sales performance
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and support revenue growth
  • Contribute to retail, wholesale, and seasonal program success
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture across greenhouse and retail operations
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and organizational safety standards
  • Conduct safety training, inspections, and documentation
Mission & Community Engagement
  • Work collaboratively alongside Brookwood Citizens and the Citizen Work Program within the Horticulture department to support Brookwood’s mission through meaningful daily interaction and engagement; this position does not provide direct supervision or oversight of Citizens.
  • Support Brookwood’s mission of meaningful work for adults with disabilities
  • Participate in community outreach, events, and campus initiatives
  • Serve as an ambassador of Brookwood’s values and mission
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Horticulture, Floriculture, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7–10+ years of operations management experience
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams in a production environment
  • Strong knowledge of ornamental plant production, irrigation, and greenhouse systems
  • Experience with budgeting, purchasing, and inventory management
Preferred
  • Experience in nonprofit or mission‑driven horticulture operations
  • Background working with individuals with disabilities
  • Garden center or retail horticulture experience
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain
