The Walnut Creek Mine is a captive lignite operation producing over 2 million tons of lignite annually. The mine operates a blending program to provide consistent quality lignite for a 308‑megawatt power plant. This is a temporary opportunity; full‑time status may be considered later.

As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will operate a variety of heavy mining equipment, conduct preventive maintenance, and participate in hazard analysis to ensure safe and efficient operations.

• Operate haul trucks, water trucks, track‑type dozers, excavators, and motor graders on mine roads and pit areas.
• Perform walk‑around equipment inspections and complete required paperwork to identify maintenance needs.
• Participate in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) to assess pit and road conditions.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment to support safety and functionality.
• Use radio systems in compliance with FCC and company regulations for coordination.
• Assist mechanics during critical equipment repairs and develop mechanical skills as part of the training program.
• Follow written, oral, or diagram instructions with high precision and attention to detail.
• Record equipment operation, fuel consumption, maintenance activities, and safety incidents accurately.
• Respond to emergencies and follow established emergency procedures.
• Collaborate with mine personnel, geologists, engineers, and geotechnical experts.
• Load and transport materials to processing or storage facilities as required.
• Maintain up‑to‑date certifications for heavy equipment operation.
• Report daily production figures, equipment status, and safety incidents to supervisors.
• Implement resource conservation practices to minimize waste of fuel and water.
• Work collaboratively with other operators and personnel to ensure smooth operations.
• Communicate with equipment suppliers and vendors for spare parts and repair services.

Hourly rate: $28–$34 per hour.

• Proven experience operating heavy mining equipment.
• Familiarity with mine road and pit operations.
• Experience in a mining environment.
• Proficiency in the safe operation of a range of heavy mining equipment.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and equipment inspection.
• Ability to conduct hazard analyses and participate in JHA processes.
• Basic mechanical skills to assist in equipment repairs.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors.
• Proficiency in documenting equipment operation and maintenance activities.
• Attention to detail while following instructions and maintaining accurate records.
• Valid driver's license at all times.

Stand for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, and hearing protection is required. Work on rough roads and varying weather conditions, with occasional handling of hazardous materials.

Extended working hours with variable shifts, including weekends and holidays. On‑call status may be required.

Participation in the Fitness for Duty Program with post‑offer physical examination and drug screening.
