Purpose and Scope
Performs a variety of engineering assignments to support project development, design changes, operations, installation, and maintenance of elevators at the Kennedy Space Center, including space flight hardware processing facilities, launch pad support buildings, engineering and administrative support buildings, and other industrial and related support facilities.
Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities- System Specific
- Perform maintenance, sustaining work, step development, analysis, or review tasks with little supervision.
- Provide onsite technical guidance for equipment installation or modification that requires elevator expertise.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to elevators.
- Maintenance
- Revise and add new asset information in Maximo database according to MAR process.
- Develop and maintain job plans and preventative maintenance schedules per NASA-STD-5008B and industry standards.
- Address and justify preventive maintenance deferrals.
- Conduct site visits to investigate system problems, propose solutions, and recommend restoration actions.
- Develop improvement plans to address systemic problems and improve performance.
- Support shop technicians, provide technical expertise, resolve failures, and document anomalies.
- Prepare and review Technical Anomaly reports for the Engineering Review Board.
- Respond to emergency and relief assignments.
- Integrated Operations Support
- Coordinate NASA and customer mission activities to support launch schedules, test plan development, and training certifications.
- Participate in console and Red Crew operations during test and launch operations as required.
- Readiness
- Provide input and participate in SHARP teams.
- Develop and present mission‑related presentations to NASA and/or EGS customers.
- Perform readiness assessments of assigned assets.
- Project Support
- Coordinate closely with requesters, customers, other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
- Interface with internal and external customers from concept to final design, commissioning, design reviews, and technical working groups.
- Support technical proposals, statements of work, and task order requirements for OMD updates.
- Communicate effectively with CAD drafters, design engineers, and shop personnel.
- Interpret single‑line and schematic drawings, develop and produce technical documentation and specifications, and verify compliance with standards.
- Assess systems for necessary upgrades to meet code requirements or enhance operations.
- Provide mentorship to entry‑level engineers.
- Perform all other position‑related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering. Five or more years of experience in the engineering discipline identified in the purpose and scope.
Required Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of industry standard computer software: CADD, AutoCAD, Micro Station, PLC interface software.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, Word processing, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance procedures, schematics, and blueprints.
- Strong ability to use data and analysis for data‑driven decisions.
- Sound judgment and reasoning capabilities.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Effective public speaking and presentation before groups of customers or employees.
- General knowledge of elevator controls and logic.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges.
- Must communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Office environment with occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Requires constant use of a computer terminal, sight, speech, hearing, and mental alertness. Planning and organizational skills required.
