Requisition resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Warfare Systems focuses on cyber and mission IT, electronic warfare, and C5
ISR systems.
HII supports national security in cyberspace and emerging threats through cybersecurity, network architecture, reverse engineering, software and hardware development. The Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer supports analytic capabilities for DoW and IC customers, such as SWAC, SSDP, US Space Command, US Strategic Command, Air Force Studies and Analysis, and the Air Force Research Laboratory. The role develops system, engagement, and mission models, integrates simulation, and supports joint mission analysis.
The Engineer adopts Model Based Systems Engineering principles using tools like Cameo Systems Modeler, AFSIM, and other modeling tools. A firm foundation in systems engineering, operations research, and object‑oriented software coding (Python, C++, MATLAB) is essential. The Engineer works with subject matter experts to express system behaviors in SysML and transition descriptive models into simulation for analysis and CONOPS development.
Technical products must integrate efforts across mission partners and interact with Government customers. Strong communication skills are required to present technical concepts to diverse audiences. The Engineer must travel to Government sites with Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities; no specified location.
EssentialJob Responsibilities
- Create, refine, and present data products with compelling narratives that provide analytically rigorous conclusions to both senior leaders and non‑technical audiences.
- Work efficiently alongside the Government, in cross‑contractor teams, and individually to identify and isolate analytic, logical, and syntax anomalies in simulations, MBSE models, algorithms, and big data.
- Conduct analysis and create custom metrics within a discrete event simulator framework like AFSIM, and perform analysis with post‑processing software such as Python, R, Excel, etc.
- Provide quantitative answers to challenging, space systems‑focused questions.
- Support subject‑matter experts who advise senior leaders on methodological, analytical, and domain‑specific issues.
- Analyze the accuracy of algorithms within modeling frameworks and collaborate to discover improvements.
- Assist the Portfolio Lead with the development of architectural and technical communication products.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent) or Operations Research/Mathematics (or equivalent).
- 5‑10 years of relevant experience. Experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.
- Object‑oriented software coding experience (Python, C++, MATLAB).
- Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering, SysML, and modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler.
- Must be SCI eligible (background investigation within last 5 years or in continuous monitoring) and able to work regularly in Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities.
- Must be willing to travel CONUS approximately 20% of the time.
- Experience modeling, simulating, and analyzing DoD systems at various levels of granularity (engagement, mission, campaign).
- Strong skills in critical thinking and problem solving.
- Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler, especially in modeling detailed behaviors using state machines.
- Experience in independent Project Management.
May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
