Summary of Position
The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to work in a fast-paced clinical research environment at both the Bayview Campus and Holland Orthopaedic and Arthritic Centre. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting ongoing research projects and work closely with the Research Manager, the anesthesia research team and Principal Investigators to assist with all aspects of study operations.

Summary of Duties

Conduct assigned research tasks.

Interact with a variety of patients: OB, trauma, cardiac, orthopaedic.

Assist with patient screening, recruitment and consent.

Prepare study documents, data collection forms, and database development.

Perform study outcome assessments (in person and follow-up phone calls), handle necessary paperwork, data abstraction and data entry.

Maintain research databases and perform audits to ensure data integrity and accuracy.

Assist in the development of guidelines and standard operating procedures.

Maintain ongoing professional communication with staff (doctors, fellows, residents, and coworkers) in order to help maintain comprehensive patient care.

Assist in preparation of study reports and summarize findings.

Assist in preparation interim/final grant reports according to granting requirements and deadlines.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) with ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Perform other administrative tasks as necessary.

Qualifications

MSc Degree in life sciences or similar health-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. PhD degree is an asset.

A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, in clinical research preferred, or the equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Prior experience with Health Canada trials.

Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail with capacity to manage multiple responsibilities in a timely manner.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge of ICH guidelines and Good Clinical Practice is an asset.

Demonstrated accurate and efficient work habits with close attention to detail.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Strong computer skills and competence with Pub Med, Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint), NVivo, SPSS, Adobe.

Familiarity with medical terminology is an asset.
