Senior Project Manager, Mechanical Engineering – Towson, MD

Purpose

Apply administrative, technical, and managerial techniques to assigned mechanical design projects to ensure their successful and timely completion within the allocated budget.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction
    • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, policy matters, and general parameters for execution.
    • Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution and review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
    • Provide mentorship to junior project managers, design engineers, and project engineers.
  • Operational and Company Level
    • Actively market the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
    • Represent the project team in client communications and resolutions.
    • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Do the Work
    • Design complex mechanical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
    • Perform project development for complex projects, including finalizing scope, preparing bid summaries, project budgets, and cost estimates.
    • Direct preparation of designs, specifications, plans, estimates, and reports for projects.
    • Review job cost sheets, prepare monthly billings, and ensure projects stay within budget allocation.
    • Manage work-in-process, billings, accounts receivable collection efforts, and client relationships.
    • Collaborate on marketing presentations, attend marketing meetings, and secure repeat business.
    • Liaise with clients, agencies, subcontractors, and design teams on projects.
    • Oversee project changes, contract alterations, work requests, and factors impacting staffing or budget.
    • Provide technical assistance in resolving design problems, field investigations, inspections, detailed design work, and design computations.
    • Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
    • Oversee designs throughout construction/completion.
    • Conduct field visits to document existing field conditions.
    • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.
    • Attend coordination and design meetings as needed and adjust designs in response to client or authority comments.
    • Review construction administrative items, such as shop drawings and change order proposals.
    • Adhere to established project budgets and maintain knowledge of applicable codes.
    • Maintain and develop proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of industry‑related experience in design of commercial, government, academic, R&D, multi‑family, industrial, and similar projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years of project‑management experience.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Trane Trace, and/or eQuest modeling software.
  • EIT and LEED accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
