Director, Network & Infrastructure

The Director, Network & Infrastructure is responsible for managing and expanding operational activities associated with the University’s network, servers & telecommunications infrastructure, including over 160 servers (physical and virtual), a wired and wireless network with more than 15,000 endpoints across four campuses, 100+ terabytes of SAN storage, and a VOIP telephone system with more than 1400 phone lines. The role shares responsibility with the CIO for IT data security and privacy concerns.

Education

& Experience

Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field plus three years of people and project management experience, and ten+ years of hands‑on experience with network infrastructure (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Industry certifications in a relevant field are a plus. The position requires a valid driver’s license with good driving record; must be insurable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage network and infrastructure staff and oversee the operation of three full‑function data centers.
  • Responsible for hiring, performance evaluations, and mentorship of the network and infrastructure team.
  • Develop and implement strategies for prompt resolution of IT data‑security and privacy issues.
  • Install, configure, support, and troubleshoot routers, firewalls, switches, and all infrastructure components.
  • Monitor network health, report and resolve issues, and maintain high performance and reliability.
  • Identify, research, and propose new technologies, services, and products to enhance functionality and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with OIT senior staff on projects and division‑wide initiatives and revise or develop college OIT policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely resolution of service incidents and client service requests.
  • Lead staff in adapting to new equipment, software, services, policies, and procedures, fostering a positive and client‑service‑oriented team environment.
  • Maintain documentation for standard project plans, schedules, resources, and status reporting.
Key

Qualifications & Skills
  • Ten‑plus years experience in network infrastructure (or equivalent).
  • Project management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex projects under aggressive deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge of data communications, network technologies, server hardware, storage systems, operating systems, and TCP/IP‑based services (DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc.).
  • Experience with formal change‑management, vendor evaluation, RFP processes, Aruba, Nortel, Cisco, MS Server, and IP Telephony products.
  • Knowledge of network security principles and performance monitoring.
  • Excellent communication, team‑building, supervisory, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and willingness to work non‑standard hours, including on‑call support (24×7×365) and weekends/ evenings.
  • Ability to work independently and under direction; must carry a cell phone at all times and respond to the CIO.
  • Fluency in English, verbal and written.
  • Ability to travel between campuses.
Physical Requirements

Medium work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Activities include keyboarding, standing and/or sitting, walking, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, talking, and hearing. Requires close visual acuity for computer use and reading printed materials. Activities occur both indoors and outdoors under varying environmental conditions.

Benefits and Salary

Hiring salary range: $90,000 to $102,000. Benefits include standard university benefits (health, dental, vision, 401(k) match, tuition assistance, etc.).
