This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Government & Communities Market Sector, supporting Water & Industrial Water projects and building critical infrastructure. Civil professionals contribute to site development efforts, including grading, drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities.
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Associate Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying site development plans using industry‑standard design tools, such as Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley Micro Station.
Basic Civil3D experience is required with use of pipe/pressure networks, proposed grading surfaces and plan and profile development.
- Supports engineering teams under general supervision
- Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)
- Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
- Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians
- Stays current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures
- Applies knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives
- Uses and expands applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures
- Creates and develops project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs
- Performs basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks
- Coordinates deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences
- Supports internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers
- Proactively seeks out, shares, and applies knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes
- Diploma or Certificate preferred.
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
- Typically a minimum of 2 years related work experience.

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
