Research Scientist

Job Summary

The University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) is seeking a Research Scientist I to develop and design unique and state‑of‑the‑art acoustic signal processing algorithms and software. This position requires the successful applicant to have demonstrated experience developing mathematical models of systems employing sensors for signal processing or control, applying statistical data analysis techniques to multiple‑channel data, and translating mathematical solutions into software.

Additional responsibilities include developing research proposals, preparing and delivering technical presentations, preparing manuscripts for journal publication, leading projects, and mentoring students. Knowledge of physical acoustics, array signal processing techniques, and C++ is highly desirable. The selected candidate must be eligible for U.S. Security Clearance.

• Develop mathematical models of systems employing sensors for signal processing or control.
• Apply statistical data analysis techniques to multiple‑channel data.
• Translate mathematical solutions into software.
• Lead projects and mentor students.
• Develop research proposals, prepare and deliver technical presentations, and prepare manuscripts for journal publication.
• Utilize knowledge of physical acoustics, array signal processing techniques, and C++ as applicable.

• PhD in a relevant field of engineering or science (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field).
• Minimum of nine (9) years of relevant experience, including:
• Demonstrated experience developing mathematical models of systems employing sensors for signal processing or control.
• Demonstrated experience applying statistical data analysis techniques to multiple‑channel data.
• Demonstrated knowledge of applied linear algebra and translating mathematical solutions into software.
• Must qualify for U.S. Security Clearance.

PhD:
Engineering Science (Required).
