Facility Maintenance Specialist II

Perform a wide variety of maintenance work at facilities and grounds which includes routine maintenance, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and electrical. Also assists with preventative maintenance such as flooring and/or ceiling work, door and/or window replacement/repair, painting, roofing, fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and electrical.

• Maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical and security and fire suppression systems.
• Maintain and repair physical structures as needed.
• Use power tools and other departmental equipment to perform basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, air conditioning, plumbing and/or other repairs and maintenance.
• Inspect facilities, equipment and grounds for necessary repairs, improvements, or preventative maintenance.
• Comply with all safety standards.
• Perform janitorial duties on the grounds and in the facility.
• Perform duties as assigned by the work order(s) received.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• May be subject to 24‑hour on‑call status.
• Will be required to travel as needed.
• Protect self, co‑workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood‑borne and/or airborne diseases. (Public Works Only)
• Within NSB Health Facilities and NSB Itinerate Quarters, respect clients and/or tenants by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements. (Public Works Only)
• Will be required to work a non‑traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays, and weekends. (Public Works Only)

• Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
• High school graduate or GED, or a combination of 12 years of education and work‑related experience.
• Three years of combined work experience in carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Ability to pass a thorough personal‑history investigation of the person to determine character traits and habits indicative of moral character (Police Only).
• Ability to pass a criminal background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit (Public Works Only).
• Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis (Public Works Only).
• Ability to obtain CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications within six months of hire.
• Ability to obtain OSHA 10‑Hour certification within six months of hire.
• Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.
