Facility Maintenance Specialist Trainee

Job Overview

To gain skills, knowledge and experience necessary to conduct routine maintenance on facilities and grounds, performing a variety of unskilled and occasionally semi‑skilled tasks including assisting with carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs; may use tools and motorized or related equipment.

• Perform to the physical and safety standard requirements of the position.
• Learn to safely and effectively operate a variety of tools and equipment such as power tools and other departmental equipment to assist with basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, air conditioning, plumbing and/or other repairs and maintenance.
• Respect clients and/or tenants by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements, within NSB Health Facilities and NSB Itinerate Quarters.
• May be required to work a non‑traditional work schedule, including evenings, holidays, weekends, and may be subject to 24‑hour on‑call status.
• Perform janitorial duties on the grounds and in the facility.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school graduate or G.E.D., or a combination of 12 years of education and work‑related experience.
• Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
• Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.
