Athletic Trainer
Place of Performance: Moody AFB, GA

General Description:
Certified Athletic Trainer will assist in the training of tactical athletes, to include all aircrew members, to enhance and optimize human performance by focusing on the delivery of athletic training/physical therapy.

Specific Tasks:
• Assist Squadron Medical Elements (SMEs) assigned to Air Force Base, integrating with the Warrior Athlete Center of Excellence (WACoE), in order to provide the full spectrum of human performance optimization and rehabilitation.
• Perform physical therapy modalities under the direction and supervision including, but not limited to: warm and cold whirlpools, electrical stimulation, ultra-sound, iontophoresis, phonophoresis, therapeutic massage, cryotherapies, thermotherapies, manual therapies, and exercise protocols as well as employing proper sterile techniques and universal precautions in the care of open wounds.
• Provide athletic training services to patients including on/off site emergency evaluation, triage and treatment in accordance with local MDG policies.
• Assess patients to screen for risk factors that would increase their risk of injury/illness. These screening procedures may include, but are not limited to: musculoskeletal flexibility assessment, muscular strength and endurance assessment, cardiovascular fitness assessment, postural and ergonomic assessment and body composition assessment.
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates emergency care for patients of all ages. Workload includes the evaluation and treatment of emergent, urgent, and non-emergent patients of active duty aircrew and support personnel.
• Design and implement strength training and/or conditioning programs to reduce the risk of injury and illness, to include leading restructuring squadron PT under the supervision of the PTLs.
• Instruct and counsel patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, human performance and rehabilitation maintenance.
• Coordinate and supervise fitness of assigned patients.
• Ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meeting individual patient needs.
• Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefits of the sports medicine program for personnel.
• Facilitate and instruct patients to enhance their general knowledge of sports medicine concepts, injury prevention strategies, self-rehabilitative techniques, and functional movement assessment, in order to develop independence of action and allow participation in their own fitness prescriptions.
• Select, apply, and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions using best evidence to guide those decisions. Interventions used by Athletic Trainers include but are not limited to: techniques to restore joint range of motion and muscle extensibility; exercises to improve strength, endurance, speed, and power; activities to improve balance; neuromuscular control and coordination; agility training; exercises to improve cardiorespiratory fitness; sports specific and/or functional exercises.
• Provide neuromuscular control and corrective exercises.
• Provide postural functional exercises and self-corrective movements.
• Provide appropriate reevaluation of targeted population.
• Provide preventative taping, bracing and orthotic use for the prevention and treatment of injuries and for the protection of the airmen during training or mission operations.
• Documents all patient encounters using mandated government systems in accordance with guidance and direction.
• May be required to travel when authorized to provide injury prevention and therapeutic support during exercises/TDY's and customer business line related meetings to fulfill respective mission goals.
• May be required to coordinate with other base and/or civilian agencies to provide training, counseling, or other services not covered under the scope.
• Track ASIMS/Duty Not Including Flying (DNIF)/Injury trends and report them monthly and quarterly to the Flight Surgeon or Sq/CC.
Position Requirements
Masters,   3 to 4 Years work experience
• A Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution.

• Must be certified in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. Must need to have both certifications for ASTM/SASTM.
• Shall be able to obtain certification in Trigger Point Dry Needling.

• Certified by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer and state licensed or eligible for state license.

Language Skills:
• Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. All documentation shall be completed in English.

• Have at least three (3) years of post-graduate professional experience working with college level or higher athletes and/or tactical military personnel of which one (1) year of full-time experience must be within the last three (3) years.
• Candidates with Master’s degrees require only a minimum of two (2) years post-graduate professional experience working with college level or higher athletes and/or tactical military personnel.
• Practicum experience while a student will not count towards this requirement.
