Job Summary
The Manager of Project Engineering leads the Project Engineering efforts for a mega project or a portfolio of projects within the Generation Construction department. They are accountable for all aspects of the project engineering life cycle, including initial scoping, design basis adherence, budgeting, forecasting, planning, and execution to support successful execution of Major Projects Generation projects. The role requires proactive leadership to integrate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as Project Management, Project Controls, Project Development, Construction Managers, Architect Engineers, and other Major Projects groups.
EssentialFunctions
Displays leadership and support to provide a safe work environment for employees and contractors, builds effective relationships, treats people with dignity, solicits feedback, and provides coaching and timely feedback. Maintains industry, regulatory, and economic knowledge to align corporate strategies with the business environment. Leads engineering teams that provide solutions meeting project goals while keeping projects within budgetary constraints. Ensures project engineers apply project management throughout the life cycle—initiation, planning, detailed design, drawing submittals, constructability reviews, field support, change control, product testing, acceptance, and transition to the customer.
Applies OPM principles across all project phases and manages staff for estimates, budgets, schedules, risk identification, and scope definition. Provides engineering guidance and timely information for balanced decision making and reports engineering performance, risks, and benefits to Directors and Vice Presidents. Oversees project engineering change control and work with project management to prevent scope creep and maintain quality. Supports integrated resource planning and the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
• 4‑year degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or ABET‑accredited technical field.
• 4‑6 years of experience managing projects, project controls, or project engineering in an industrial environment.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in utility‑based engineering, project management, or fossil plant operations/maintenance.
• Ability to lead and function in multi‑discipline teams.
• Advanced knowledge of Fossil Power, Hydro Power, and/or Renewables.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience working at a generating station or major project group.
• Certified Project Management Professional (PMP‑PMI).
• Upon Hire, Professional Engineers License.
The position may require working outside normal work hours to support emergency operations.
