We are seeking a licensed Refrigeration Mechanic / HVAC‑R Technician to partner with us on a per‑project subcontract basis. This is ideal for an experienced professional who wants flexible contract work without full‑time employment commitments.
The right candidate is dependable, professional, safety‑conscious, and capable of independently completing refrigeration and heat pump installation work to code and manufacturer specifications.
Duties Installation & Mechanical Work
Install ductless mini‑split systems, multi‑head systems, and heat pumps
Permits, Compliance & Documentation Determine permit requirements for each project
Pull and manage all required permits, inspections, and approvals as applicable
Coordinate inspections with local authorities having jurisdiction
Ensure compliance with BC Building Code, Technical Safety BC requirements, WorkSafeBC regulations, municipal permit requirements, refrigerant handling regulations, electrical coordination requirements where applicable
Testing, Troubleshooting & Service Commission installed systems and verify operational performance
Diagnose installation‑related issues
Troubleshoot refrigeration circuits, controls, airflow, and system performance
Complete start‑up testing and performance verification
Resolve deficiencies identified during inspection or commissioning
Jobsite & Client Coordination Coordinate with project manager, electricians, sheet metal contractors, and other trades
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite
Communicate professionally with homeowners, builders, and project stakeholders
Manage material requirements and notify of shortages or equipment needs
Ensure projects are completed on schedule
Required Qualifications Valid Refrigeration Mechanic certification (Red Seal preferred)
BC qualification to legally perform refrigeration/HVAC work
Refrigerant handling certification
Experience installing mini‑split systems, ductless heat pumps, multi‑zone HVAC systems, and residential heat‑pump systems
Strong troubleshooting and commissioning skills
Knowledge of BC codes and permit requirements
Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
Own tools required for refrigeration/HVAC installation
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Existing contractor insurance / WCB coverage (if subcontracting independently)

Capable of installing refrigerant piping, line sets, drain systems, control wiring, disconnects, and mounting systems
Perform pressure testing, vacuum evacuation, refrigerant charging, and commissioning
Install indoor air handlers, outdoor condensers, and associated HVAC equipment
Retrofit and replace existing HVAC systems
Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, installation manuals, and specifications
Ensure all installations comply with manufacturer requirements and applicable codes
