POSITION SUMMARYReporting to the Manager, SHOAL Community Centre, the Janitor supports the day‑to‑day operation of the SHOAL Community Centre by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for seniors, staff, volunteers, and community users. This role focuses on routine custodial cleaning, basic setup support, and minor facility upkeep.
This position is well suited to someone seeking consistent, part‑time hours in a community‑focused setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Cleaning & Facility Care- Perform routine cleaning of community centre spaces, washrooms, and common areas
- Empty garbage and recycling and maintain general tidiness
- Follow established cleaning, sanitation, and safety procedures
- Assist with basic room set‑up and take‑down for programs or rentals as needed
- Ensure spaces are ready for use and left clean and orderly
- Use cleaning products and equipment safely and according to WHMIS guidelines
- Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors
- Follow Beacon policies and procedures
- Perform other related duties as required within the scope of the role
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous custodial, janitorial, or facilities support experience preferred
- Experience in a community, seniors, or public‑facing setting is an asset
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment
- Good time management and attention to detail
- Physically able to perform custodial duties
- Professional, respectful approach when interacting with seniors and staff
- All successful applicants must consent to a Solicitor General’s Criminal Record Check.
- Depending on future public health developments, Beacon may implement a vaccination requirement as a condition of ongoing employment for all our workplaces.
