Director of Facilities & Trades Education

Boys Home of Virginia – Covington, VA

Boys Home of Virginia is seeking an experienced and mission-driven professional to lead both our campus facilities operations and NCCER-aligned trades education program. This role equally combines the responsibilities of a Facilities Director with the leadership of a hands‑on workforce development and skilled trades training program for students.

The Director of Facilities & Trades Education plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, efficient campus while preparing young men for future careers through practical instruction, mentorship, and real‑world work experience.

Position Overview

This position oversees all campus buildings, grounds, maintenance operations, and facilities staff while also directing the student trades education and Work Program. Students gain hands‑on experience through campus construction, maintenance, landscaping, and infrastructure projects that reinforce NCCER curriculum standards and workforce readiness skills.

The ideal candidate is both an operational leader and an educator/mentor who values safety, accountability, craftsmanship, and student growth.

Key Responsibilities Facilities & Operations Leadership
  • Oversee maintenance and operation of all campus buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure
  • Lead preventative maintenance, repairs, custodial services, groundskeeping, and capital improvement projects
  • Supervise and support facilities staff through training, scheduling, and performance management
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and organizational policies
  • Coordinate vendors, contractors, and outsourced services
  • Respond to facilities emergencies and provide campus operational leadership
NCCER Trades Education & Workforce Training
  • Lead and teach NCCER Core Curriculum and workforce readiness instruction
  • Deliver training in construction safety, tools, blueprint reading, employability skills, and foundational trades knowledge
  • Maintain NCCER credentialing records and student competency documentation
  • Integrate classroom learning with hands‑on campus work projects
  • Create active job-site learning environments where students gain practical experience
Student Work Program Leadership
  • Supervise students participating in campus work assignments and trades projects
  • Teach workplace expectations including punctuality, teamwork, communication, accountability, and professionalism
  • Mentor students in both technical skill development and character growth
  • Collaborate with Residential Life and Education teams to support student success
Postsecondary & Workforce Partnerships
  • Partner with Mountain Gateway Community College to expand dual enrollment and credential opportunities
  • Support student transitions into postsecondary training and workforce pathways
  • Help align program offerings with regional workforce needs and career opportunities
