Overnight Residential Counselor (part-time)
Second Story for Teens in Crisis is part of Second Story, a nonprofit that equips local youth and families with the critical tools, housing, and communities of support needed to achieve lasting self‑sufficiency. Second Story offers both residential and community‑based programs. Our Teens in Crisis program is the only emergency home in Northern Virginia for teens aged 13 to 17, providing shelter, safety, counseling, and support during critical moments in a young person’s life.
Second Story for Teens in Crisis is hiring a part-time (27 hours per week) Overnight Residential Counselor. The ideal candidate is reliable, compassionate, culturally competent, and capable of working independently with strong communication, problem‑solving, and conflict resolution skills.
Responsibilities- Remaining awake to monitor residents throughout the night and ensure their safety via bed checks
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and secure living environment
- Answering crisis hotline calls
- Providing written case management, such as case notes and incident reports
- Conducting emergency intakes and discharges
- Assisting residents with their morning routines, including medication administration
Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:30pm-7:30am (days and hours are non‑negotiable).
Qualifications- REQUIRED:
Must have a bachelor’s degree (preferably in psychology, social work, human services, counseling, or a related field) - REQUIRED:
Must be willing to undergo a background investigation prior to employment and become certified in CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration - PREFERRED:
Ability to speak Spanish - PREFERRED:
Prior experience in the mental health field, especially with teens
$22.00 per hour
