Sign‑On Bonus: $3,000 available to eligible new hires.

Corrections officers contribute to the public safety mission by providing for the safety and security of the public, staff, and inmates. They ensure effective and safe custody and control, comply with policy and procedure, and use evidence‑based practices. Officers provide security over adult inmates at the institution and while in transport, supervise daily activities, and monitor inmate behavior and movement.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; valid driver’s license; ability to read and comprehend workplace policies; ability to prepare reports and documentation; lawful possession of a firearm in VA; completion of pre‑employment requirements including medical screening, background check, and drug testing.

• Stable employment history, military or criminal justice experience.
• Preference for individuals at least 21 years old (waiver possible for 18‑20).
• Bi‑lingual and multi‑lingual applicants encouraged.

• All applicants undergo background investigation: fingerprint checks (State Police, FBI), employment and education verification, credit checks, local agency checks.
• Pre‑employment drug screening required for safety‑sensitive positions; marijuana use prohibited for positions requiring firearm or commercial driver’s license.
