Corrections officers contribute to the public safety mission by ensuring the safety and security of the public, staff, and inmates through effective custody and control. Officers apply evidence‑based practices, maintain compliance with policy and procedure, and work as part of multidisciplinary teams to address inmate needs. Responsibilities include providing security over adult inmates at the institution and during transport, supervising daily inmate activities, observing and recording behavior and movement, and ensuring safe and secure confinement.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and implement workplace policies and procedures, and to prepare reports and documentation.
• Legal possession of a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Completion of all pre‑employment requirements: medical screening, background check, and drug testing (including marijuana screening).

• Stable employment history and/or military or criminal justice experience.
• Preference for individuals 21 years or older (waiver may be granted for 18‑20 year olds).
