Location: Emory
About this position:
Provides on-time transportation services for Emory & Henry employees and students, ensuring transportation system and passenger safety.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Drivers must be able to operate a commercial motor vehicle as defined by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
Drives college-owned equipment such as 56 passenger buses, 28 passenger buses and 15 passenger vans, providing safe and efficient transportation to the Emory & Henry community.
Performs routine pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection and maintenance including checking the oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, and water and tire pressures.
Provides travel information and other general assistance to the Emory & Henry community and its visitors.
Maintains records of work performed; makes timely reports of accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Records maintenance skills.
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels.
Ability to safely and efficiently operate a loaded passenger bus.
Working Conditions:
Drivers will be expected to operate vehicles in various weather conditions to include rain, snow, sleet, etc.
About our ideal candidate
Qualifications:
Drivers must be 18 years of age or older to hold a CDL in the state of Virginia.
Drivers must have an approved CDL license with a passenger endorsement.
Drivers must be available to drive nights and weekends.
High school diploma or general education diploma required.
Physical Requirements:
Drivers must complete a physical and submit to drug/alcohol testing as a condition of employment.
As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
