Engineering Hiring Pool
TCEQ is seeking engineers with a Texas Professional Engineer license or unlicensed candidates with training to prepare for their PE exam. Licensed engineers receive a $5,000 recruitment bonus. Acceptance into the pool allows hiring supervisors to select candidates based on license and geographical preferences.
Qualifications Positions Available /Minimum Qualifications
- Engineer I:
Texas Professional Engineer license. - Engineer II:
Texas Professional Engineer license plus one year of full‑time engineering experience beyond licensure. - Engineer III:
Texas Professional Engineer license plus two years of full‑time engineering experience beyond licensure. - Engineer IV:
Texas Professional Engineer license plus three years of full‑time engineering experience beyond licensure. - Engineer V:
Texas Professional Engineer license plus four years of full‑time engineering experience beyond licensure. - Engineer VI:
Texas Professional Engineer license plus five years of full‑time engineering experience beyond licensure.
Qualifying work experience includes experience obtained post‑licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.
General Engineering Specialist- General Engineering Specialist I:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. - General Engineering Specialist II:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus one year of full‑time engineering experience. - General Engineering Specialist III:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus two years of full‑time engineering experience. - General Engineering Specialist IV:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus four years of full‑time engineering experience. - General Engineering Specialist V:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus five years of full‑time engineering experience. - General Engineering Specialist VI:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus six years of full‑time engineering experience.
Substitutions for experience:
- State of Texas Engineer-in-Training certification substitutes for six months of required experience.
- A master’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or related fields substitutes for one year of required experience.
- A doctorate in engineering, environmental science, or related fields substitutes for two years of required experience.
NOTE: The program is not available to current TCEQ employees or those who decline an offer of employment.
