SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Security Officer is to ensure and maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, visitors, and vendors through observation and reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensuring Safety and Security by Providing Customer Service and Assistance by proactively maintaining a safe and secure hospital environment,

  • Monitor hospital entrances, restricted areas, and high-risk zones to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Conduct regular patrols inside and outside hospital premises to detect and prevent security threats.
  • Control access to sensitive areas such as server rooms, central plant, and other access-restricted areas.
  • Escort staff, visitors, and patients when needed, ensuring their safety.
  • Assist patients, visitors, and staff with directions, lost belongings, or security concerns.
  • Ensure that everyone—regardless of background, race, disability, or language barriers—feels included and safe.
  • Show compassion and patience when dealing with individuals in distress, including families of critically ill patients.

Provide courteous and professional service to all hospital guests, fostering a welcoming environment.

Emergency Response and Crisis Management

Demonstrating compassion, teamwork, and safety by protecting individuals while maintaining order during emergencies.

  • Act as first responders to security threats, fires, violent situations, and medical emergencies.
  • Implement lockdown procedures, evacuations, and emergency protocols when required.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, fire departments, and hospital administration during crises.
  • Provide de‑escalation and conflict resolution techniques to handle agitated patients, aggressive visitors, or distressed individuals.
  • Maintain calm and control in high‑pressure situations, ensuring patient, and staff well‑being.
  • Respond swiftly to emergencies such as workplace violence incidents, medical emergencies, and suspicious activities.
Enforcing Hospital Policies and Regulations

Enforcing policies with integrity, respect, and inclusion, security officers help create a fair and safe environment for all.

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies regarding visitor restrictions, badge access, and prohibited items.
  • Prevent and address workplace violence, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
  • Assist in patient and staff safety concerns, such as managing high‑risk individuals or disruptive behavior.
  • Conduct security screenings at hospital entrances and high‑risk areas.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations, protecting patient privacy.
Surveillance, Incident Reporting, and Investigation

Leveraging innovation, excellence, and accountability, security officers ensure that hospital security measures are effective and continuously improving.

  • Operate and monitor CCTV cameras, access control systems, and alarms to identify potential security risks.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into reported security incidents such as theft, unauthorized access, or suspicious behavior.
  • Use technology‑driven solutions (digital logs, security analytics) to improve security efficiency.
  • Identify potential security weaknesses and recommend innovative solutions to enhance hospital safety.
