Position: Sr. Scientist - Cell Culture
Repligen Corporation (NASDAQ: RGEN) is a life sciences company focused on the development, production, and commercialization of high-value consumable and system products used in the process of manufacturing biological drugs. Our bioprocessing products are sold to major life sciences and biopharmaceutical companies worldwide.
Repligen has a range of single-use cell retention systems that are continuously being refined and updated to meet market needs. We are seeking a highly motivated, resourceful, detail-oriented professional to join our cell culture R&D team. The group is responsible for application research support for existing and new product development and evaluation.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
This position will play a key role in implementing cell culture principles and skilled practices in contributing to the overall R&D growth. The candidate will be a scientific leader in the upstream team, with responsibilities in executing bench-scale fed-batch and perfusion processes and characterization.
Lead upstream cell culture projects encompassing, study design, implementation, and data analysis to improve the process robustness and to evaluate novel applications and technologies.
Execute application-oriented high cell-density cultures for new and existing Repligen products. Laboratory activities will include seed expansion, fed-batch, perfusion, and clarification processes using mammalian cell lines.
Analyzing and troubleshooting cell culture processes by monitoring cell growth, viability, protein productivity, and other cell culture metabolites and process parameters. Serve as a technical leader in the implementation of bioreactor process scale-up parameters.
Proficient in developing protocols and reports for processes in shake flasks and stirred tank and single-use bioreactors using ATF/TFF and other perfusion systems.
Prepare presentation decks and data sets to effectively present experimental planning and results to the R&D and Product Management teams regularly.
Knowledgeable in protein quality and purification projects using chromatographic separation methods would be beneficial.
Designing experimental investigations, hollow fiber scale-up process, analyzing experimental data, discoveries, literature review, technical reports, and giving presentations internally and at scientific conferences.
Designing and executing novel application studies for market intelligence or to complement Repligen’s product lines based on feedback from the inter and intradepartmental
Mentor Upstream team members and deliver scientific guidance, and work collaboratively with technical leads and SMEs in manufacturing, engineering, and other associated departments.
Degree in chemical engineering, biochemistry, or applicable fields
BS with 10+years or MS with 8+ years or Ph.D. with 6+ of industrial experience in a process or application development setting.
Extensive understanding in biological process sciences, upstream process development including aseptic techniques, and cell culture processes.
Experienced hands-on work in setting up a lab and bench-scale bioreactors, culturing cells, and optimizing feeding and perfusion strategies.
Demonstrated experience in the design of experiments (DoE), strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand, and to contribute with novel solutions.
The ability to work independently and in a team setting
Excellent oral and written communication abilities and strong interpersonal skills to communicate with internal and external team members.
Additional experience with gene therapy applications and viral vaccines would be a plus.
Experience with continuous bioprocessing desirable but not necessary
Previous experience with hollow fiber membranes, determining critical flux, shear and TMP measurements
