Job Title:

Engineer I, Engineer II, or Engineer III. Placement of the hired candidate will depend on qualifications.

Purpose of Job

The purpose of this job is to perform administrative and supervisory functions associated with coordinating and managing Transportation and Public Works projects. Duties include coordinating and supervising section personnel, consultants, projects and activities; reviewing engineering projects; ensuring compliance with applicable codes; and performing additional tasks as required.

Emergency Position

This position is designated as an emergency position that requires attendance at all types of emergency conditions (e.g., inclement weather, utility failure, fire, forced evacuation or as determined by the Manager).

Engineer I ($61,332)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required with four years of experience in engineering, construction, management, project management, design engineering, land development, stormwater, or pavement management; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • One year of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • International Municipal Association Level II certification in Sign and Marking, Traffic Signal Electronics, or Construction is preferred.
Engineer II ($64,398)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Agriculture, or Environmental Engineering required with four years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Certificate as an Engineer – In – Training is required.
  • International Municipal Association Level II certification in Sign and Marking, Traffic Signal Electronics, or Construction is preferred.
Engineer III ($67,618)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Agriculture, or Environmental Engineering required with four years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) is required.
  • Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Level 1A or higher certification is preferred (Level II must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff; handle employee concerns, direct work assignments, counsel, discipline, and complete performance appraisals.
  • Direct project design(s) and production of plans, specifications, and necessary documents for Public Works projects.
  • Prepare project estimates, status reports, and presentations.
  • Direct inspection of projects for compliance with contract requirements and established standards.
  • Attend division and department meetings to develop, plan, design, and assess funding and schedule projects.
  • Assist in maintaining and administering departmental programs; lead development of departmental standards and specifications.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports and studies for approval by the Commission.
  • Assist with reports, correspondence, forms, charts and other documentation; maintain records; provide information to the public.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
When Assigned to Construction Management
  • Direct, manage, and plan reviews on assigned roadway and drainage maintenance and new capital improvement projects.
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of construction cost estimates.
  • Manage and direct staff through the bid and award phase; develop project-specific schedules; prepare bid solicitations.
