Planner / Assistant Director of Planning, Zoning, and Building

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a Planner - Assistant Director of Planning, Zoning, and Building in the Building and Zoning Department. This position is a senior position which performs professional and administrative duties related to County planning, zoning, and code enforcement. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, initiating, implementing, monitoring, and updating municipal planning activities and community designs, and review of all residential, commercial, and industrial development and redevelopment proposals.

Responsibilities also include guiding growth to appropriate areas of the County as outlined in various County planning documents and building relationships with municipal departments, boards, businesses, and residents.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in planning, public administration, geography, or a related field; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of planning is highly preferred.
  • Current and advanced planning activities and their relationship to the comprehensive planning process and associated methodologies and techniques.
  • Planning principles, practices, regulations and techniques as they relate to land‑use subdivision, environmental impact, transportation or related areas, community and economic development, historical preservation, forecasting, and political decision‑making processes.
  • Permitting processes, administration, permit tracking software.
  • Developing and writing reports based on an analysis of data and ongoing citizen and agency input.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.
