Overview
Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care.
- Collect and share pertinent information with the provider
- Receive and act on directives from the provider
- Prepare the patient for visit with the provider, including rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure setup, injection prep, and accurate data entry into the EMR
- Complete tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
- Maintain exam room standards; restock rooms at the end of each clinic day and clean rooms and tables as needed during the clinic and at day end
- Monitor biohazard and sharps containers and replace them as needed
- Assist the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (e.g., work release, FMLA)
- Retrieve and respond to voicemails within 24 business hours and document actions in the EMR
- Prepare patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service
- Verify outstanding testing results are in the EMR; confirm the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and/or insurance); note imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service
- Scan clinical documents into the EMR
- Print clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service
- Ensure the patient receives education as indicated by the provider
- Manage EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner
- Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan
- Create and promote a positive patient experience
- Maintain a HIPAA compliant environment
- Maintain a clean workspace
High school diploma/GED, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
Experience- 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
- In lieu of experience, must have the following training and/or experience:
- Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate; OR
- Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
- The employee must pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
- Active Medical Assistant certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from
American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from
American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT), or per State regulations - Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software
- Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use
