Field Service Technician

Position Overview

Marathon Electric is a leading manufacturer of industrial alternators and power generation solutions. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for troubleshooting and repair of industrial alternators and associated electrical/mechanical systems at customer sites.

• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues with power generation components
• Ensure delivered‑quality compliance with engineering specifications and customer requirements
• Provide on‑site technical support and training to customers
• Collaborate with engineering and internal teams to resolve complex technical issues
• Prepare detailed service reports documenting work performed and findings

• Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance or related field (preferred)
• Minimum 2–5 years of field service experience, ideally with alternators, generators or rotating equipment
• Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, controls and power generation equipment
• Ability to troubleshoot using multimeters, diagnostic tools and testing equipment
• Mechanical aptitude with experience in bearings, alignment and rotating assemblies
• Read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
• Excellent communication and customer‑service skills
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel up to 100%

• Experience with industrial alternators or synchronous generators
• Knowledge of PLC systems and control panels
• OSHA or other safety certifications

Position is based in Wausau, WI with frequent travel to customer sites, including industrial plants and outdoor environments. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding conditions is required. Exposure to electrical equipment, rotating machinery and varying climates is common.
