Manual Machinist
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
A well-established industrial services organization is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join a fast-paced, customer-focused operation. This role is ideal for a hands-on machinist with strong mechanical aptitude who takes pride in precision work, problem-solving, and supporting field service operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual milling machines and vertical lathes
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and feed rates for various materials
- Troubleshoot machining issues and make corrective adjustments
- Machine components to precise dimensions and finishes per drawings and specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and shop drawings
- Apply working knowledge of metallurgy, material wear, galling, and heat treatment
- Perform advanced shop math to verify measurements, dimensions, and tolerances
- Design and fabricate custom fixtures and tooling as needed
- Support service and repair work under direction of shop and field leadership
- Operate company vehicles to travel to customer sites when required
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all safety policies and procedures
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on manual machining experience
- Experience with valves, pumps, or actuators strongly preferred
- Welding experience is a plus
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to follow direction while working independently when needed
- Willingness to work on-site at customer facilities
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements
- Desire to continue developing skills for advancement
- Approximately 10% travel annually for training and support
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequent use of hands for fine manipulation of tools and components
- Ability to work with hand and power tools
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day)
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required
- Ability to work at heights, including ladders up to 20 feet
- Ability to climb stairs regularly
- Ability to work in loud, industrial environments
- Comfortable working around moving mechanical equipment
- Ability to work in varying temperatures
- Ability to drive up to 3–4 hours per day on average, with occasional longer drives
Compensation
- Hourly Rate: $26.00 – $35.00
