Department

Patient Transport – Wayne Hospital

Shift and Status

Part time, 20 hours per week. 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., every other weekend. Rotating (U.S.) – Monday to Friday.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients, specimens, and medication throughout the hospital as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Transport patients safely, timely, and efficiently; includes lifting patients on/off beds and moving them throughout the hospital.
  • Recognize patient stress or other issues during transport and seek assistance immediately.
  • Monitor O₂, IVs, catheters, etc., and alert appropriate personnel 100% of the time.
  • Inform supervisor/dispatcher of all delays within 10 minutes.
  • Maintain transport equipment clean, safe, and orderly; return all equipment to the appropriate location.
  • Maintain and complete all departmental records, complete proper handoff before removing patient from department/unit; check all patient  and complete two identifiers prior to transportation.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Use safe lifting and transport techniques.
  • Practice universal precautions as appropriate.
  • Communicate with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism with patients, families, staff, physicians, and management.
  • Understand and follow direction; comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements.
  • Transport specimens, oxygen, stretchers, and other items as assigned.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and risk‑mitigation measures; complete safety competencies and requirements on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Range of Pay

Between $15.70 and $18.57 per hour, based on experience.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA American Heart Association or ARC American Red Cross upon hire.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism.
Preferred
  • Prior transport experience.
