Job Summary
Southern Nuclear Operating Company is seeking an experienced Reactor Engineer for Plant Vogtle 1 & 2 in Waynesboro, GA. The role supports reactor core monitoring, power maneuvers, special nuclear material accountability, fuel movement and inspection, technical specification surveillance, and core analysis/monitoring software.
Job Responsibilities- Support plant operations 24/7, on‑call one week out of five.
- Periodic shift work may be required.
- Serve in Emergency Response Organization as Technical Support Center Reactor Engineer.
- Complete qualifications for Reactor Engineer.
- Develop and implement procedures and processes for reactor operations.
- Perform technical specification surveillance and testing of reactor core.
- Develop reactivity plans to support plant operations.
- Operate and maintain core monitoring software.
- Implement Special Nuclear Material control program.
- Ensure nuclear fuel storage meets regulatory requirements.
- Inspect nuclear fuel.
- Support Reactivity Management program.
- Support and lead special projects related to plant and fuel improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution or a PE license.
- Degree in Nuclear Engineering preferred.
- Previous qualification as a reactor engineer at an operating facility preferred.
- Prior nuclear power plant experience desired.
- Experience with Westinghouse methods desired.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective engagement and support of plant departments in troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of nuclear and thermal‑hydraulic engineering analyses.
- Knowledge of UFSAR and Technical Specifications for fuel operation support.
- Industry experience in nuclear fuel operation and design trends.
- Accountability to established policies and procedures.
- Organizational and multitasking skills.
- Proficient with MS Word and Excel.
